George Tjaerlis, of Braintree, a retired Air Force Colonel and Army Employment Manager passed away at his home Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was 95 years of age. George was born in Boston. During and after World War II and the Korean service, he attended New York University, Duke University, and Northeastern University. He performed 35 years of active and reserve service prior to retirement in 1974. Most of his military life was in the field of Civilian Personnel Management at the U.S. and German bases. He was active in lay activities of Greek Orthodox churches in Braintree, Boston, Hyannis, Brockton, and Florida. George was the devoted husband of the late Amelia (Couyou) Tjaerlis; and leaves his son, Christopher; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at St. Catherines Greek Orthodox Church, 119 Common Street, Braintree, Tuesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. Burial was held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Arrangements were made by the Peck Funeral Home, Braintree.
