Marjorie V. Archer Obituary
Marjorie V. Nana (Olthoff) Archer, age 92, died peacefully, Thursday, June 26, 2014. Marjorie was born, raised and educated in Webster City, Iowa, where she played the saxophone and basketball on a state championship team and was the tournament Queen. She went to beauty school, then moved to Boston during World War II and had lived in Quincy for most of her extraordinary life. She loved the beach and boating and was a member of the Town River Yacht Club. She also loved camping, playing the ukulele and singing around the campfire with family and friends. Marjorie was an avid do-it-yourselfer and the consummate caregiver and homemaker, having raised five children. She was devoted to her family, especially her eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. She was employed as a nursing assistant at the former Quincy City Hospital for twenty years and retired many years ago. Marjorie can be best described as a strong, adventurous, independent, beautiful, fun and loving woman. She was the devoted mother of Roger S. Archer of Pembroke, Janis M. Weinberg and her husband Ira of Malden, Jean C. Mastrangelo of Abington and Joseph Mastrangelo, Marjorie D. Jodie Trainor and her husband Shawn of Abington and the late George W. Archer; loving grandmother of eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren; dear sister of Connie House of Spokane, Wash. Also survived by many nieces and nephews including James King of Weymouth and Richard King of Fla. Memorial services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers, Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, July 5, at 12 p.m. Reverend Stan Johnson, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Quincy, will officiate.
