Richard Alan Grant, age 62, of Plymouth, formerly of Milton and Marshfield, died June 29, 2014, after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer. Born in Boston to Wilfred Woody and M. Phyllis (Petersen) Grant, he was a graduate of Thayer Academy and received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. The former 30-year owner and operator of Budget Liquors, Mattapan and Harwichport, Richard will be remembered for his athletic ability, kind nature and sense of humor. An avid golfer, he loved spending time with his family and wide circle of friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Valerie (Jannotta); his children, Lauren Spencer and her husband Thomas of Plymouth and Richard A. Grant II of R.I.; his grandchildren, Haley and Michael Taraska, Kelsi and Allison Spencer; his sister and brothers, Karen Ponichtera and her husband Paul of Hingham, Christopher Grant and his wife Linda of Milton, Robert Grant and his wife Barbara of Boxford, Wilfred L. Grant Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Buffalo, N.Y., and Peter J. Grant and his wife Susan of Corinth, Texas; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth and his wife Patricia Jannotta of Hanover. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Careswell and Canal St., Marshfield, Thursday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment is private.
