William A. DeSantis, age 86, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Radius Specialty Hospital in Quincy, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1946. He also received an associates degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. He had lived in Braintree for thirty-five years and previously in Quincy. He was a designer and draftsman at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy for many years. He worked for both the Bethlehem Steel Company and for General Dynamics. Previously, as a young man, he began his career at the Stone and Webster firm in Boston. Bill was an accomplished gardener and landscaper. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles and was an avid Boston sports fan. Bill was devoted to his family and especially to his four cherished grandchildren. Beloved husband for sixty-six years to Georgiana M. (DiGiusto) DeSantis, he was the devoted father of Carol A. Nuss and her husband Jay of Braintree, Lisa M. Tarashuk and her husband Richard of Braintree; loving grandfather of Angela M. Nuss of Braintree, Michael A. Nuss of South Boston, Richard W. Tarashuk of Boston and William A. Tarashuk of Braintree; brother of the late Fred DeSantis and David DeSantis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Tuesday, August 5 at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, at 10 oclock.
