Obituary Condolences

Patricia Ann Patti McKay, age 79, a longtime Weymouth resident, died unexpectedly, at home, Monday, August 11, 2014. Patti was born and raised in Wilmington, Del., where she was a graduate of Christ Our King Elementary School and Saint Elizabeth High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Catholic University and later earned her masters degree in Fine Arts, also from Catholic University. As a young college student, Patti sang in local summer theater performances and after graduation worked in New York City for five years in pursuit of an acting and singing career. In 1969, she began a longtime teaching career at Braintree High School as an English teacher, where she worked for thirty years. She was the drama director at Braintree High School and produced and directed performances of plays and musicals. She retired in 1999. After retirement, Patti became an active member of the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed reading, writing, film and the arts, and was active in book and writing groups. She was also a regular communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Community Parish in Weymouth. Beloved daughter of the late Edward P. and Genevieve N. (Haggerty) McKay; and sister of Robert A. McKay of Meza, Ariz., she is survived by a niece, a grandniece, three nephews and many relatives and friends who adopted her as their Auntie Patti; and she was a dear friend of Christine Gaffney and her family of Weymouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Alberts Church, 1130 Washington Street, Weymouth, Saturday, August 16, at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment services will be held at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, Del., Tuesday, August 19. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pattis memory may be made to the Weymouth Food Pantry, 1189 Commercial St., Weymouth, MA 02189, or to the American Association of University Women, P.O.
