Bernadette Mary Mitchell Bernadette Mary Mitchell GROVELAND Bernadette Mary Duffy Mitchell, 78, of Groveland, MA, formerly of Randolph and Yarmouthport, MA, died Saturday December 5, 2009 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. She was the loving wife of the late Maurice P. Mitchell, a Quincy Police Officer with whom she shared 44 years of marriage. Born July 26, 1931 at Salmonford, Kilkelly, Co. Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and MaryJane (Snee) Duffy. She also lived in Dublin, Ireland where she studied piano at the London College of Music before coming to the United States immediately after World War II. She graduated from Central Evening High School in Boston in 1949. Bernadette worked at the Hingham Naval Shipyard before marrying and raising her family. She was the proud mother of eight children. She was an elected Town Meeting Member in Randolph in the 1970s where she also served as a member of the Randolph Youth Commission and worked to establish the first Youth Center for the teens of Randolph. She was an active member of the St. Bernadettes Parish including teaching CCD. Bernadette also worked as a legal secretary for the Federal Trade Commission and Environmental Protection Agency. Bernadette is survived by her eight beloved children, Daniel P. Mitchell of Groveland, MA; MaryJane Mitchell and her husband Frank J. Musumarra of Stafford, VA; Dr. Thomas M. Mitchell and his wife Dr. Cheryl Mitchell of Marshfield Hills, MA; Michael J. Mitchell, Esq. and Mariette of New York City, NY; Bernadette M. Corrado, Esq. and her husband Anthony of West Newbury, MA; John M. Mitchell, Esq. and his wife Cary Mitchell, Esq. of Miramar, FL; Edward J. Mitchell and his wife Rebecca of Mountain Brook, AL and Maurice P. Mitchell and his wife Suzanne of Milton, MA. Bernadette is also survived by her sister Dymphna Richards of Los Angeles, CA and 16 cherished grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bernadette was also the sister of the late Edward and Michael Duffy, and Florence Kerr. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Thursday in the Lydon Chapel for Funerals, 644 Hancock St., Quincy at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anns Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:30 p.m. Donations graciously accepted to the Quincy Police Mutual Aid Assoc., 1 Sea St., Quincy, MA 02169.
