Alice C. (Bittman) Bleiler, 98, of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday Oct. 29, 2010. Born in Cambridge on Oct. 24, 1912, to the late Gottlieb and Anna (Reichel) Bittman, she was a lifelong resident of the Boston area. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Walter F. Bleiler, in 1991. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years at the Faulkner Hospital and the Brockton Lutheran Nursing Home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Roxbury, for over 70 years and a member of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League. Alice was also a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years in Jamaica Plain, a member of Abington Garden and Womens Club where she served as past president, a member of the Randolph Womens Club, a volunteer at both Old Colony Hospice and Brockton Hospital and an active bowler for many years in the Abington bowling league. She is survived by her son, Walter F. Bleiler Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Melbourne, FL; her daughter, Linda A. Lajoie and her husband Paul of Longmeadow, MA; three grandchildren, Debr Coons, Marc Lajoie, and Dean Lajoie; by six great-grandchildren, Aurelia Braley, Gracyn and Logan Coons and Sage, Aidan and Hadley Lajoie. Besides her husband Walter, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Bayne Bleiler. A graveside service will be held for Alice on Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 12 noon at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., Boston, MA. There are no calling hours. Forastiere Smith Funeral Home in East Longmeadow, MA is entrusted with the arrangements.
