George Santry, age 69, of Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Quincy Medical Center. He was born in Boston, raised and educated in South Boston schools and was a graduate of Boston Technical High School. He was also a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Class of 1965. He has lived in Quincy for forty-five years. George was employed on the Boston waterfront for thirty-five years. He was a ship operation supervisor for Massport for eighteen years and previously had worked seventeen years for the former BS Costello Stevedore Company. He began his merchant marine career sailing from Boston in various positions with U.S. Lines for five years. He has been retired for several years. George was a member and past president of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Alumni Association. He enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and sports. He was a former baseball coach with Saint Johns Church Little League in Quincy for many years. Beloved husband for forty-five years of Nancy A. (Tott) Santry. Devoted father of Daniel Santry of Winthrop, William Santry and Jennifer Santry both of Quincy. Loving son of the late James and Rosamond (Butters) Santry. Brother of James Santry and his wife Barbara of Princeton, MA. Also survived by one niece and three nephews. Son-in-law of Virginia M. (Sylvester) Tott of Hull and the late Herman W. Tott. Brother-in-law of Sandra Genoa and her husband David of Milford. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. Rev. Earl Alger will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
