Frederick W. Welsford Obituary
Frederick W. Welsford, 94, of East Longmeadow, and formerly of Braintree and Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 17, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Frederick was born in Holbrook, Oct. 6, 1918, a son of the late Walter C. and Muriel M. (Warner) Welsford. He was a graduate of Holbrook High School, Class of 1935. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Fred began his career with New England Telephone in 1946 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a volunteer network. He served on various town boards in his hometown of Braintree and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved to tinker in his workshop and could repair just about anything - "Papa Fix". He retired in 1983 and headed to Florida in 1990, which he "loved immensely". He was an avid Boston sports fan and loved the game of golf, making nine holes-in-one. He was Kings Point Golf Club Champion twice, his last at age 93. And most importantly, Fred was a true gentleman. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Elinor Welsford. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years of marriage, Hazel (Gill) Welsford of East Longmeadow and formerly of Braintree; three devoted children, Frederick W. Welsford Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Jeanne Harris and her husband Neil of Mashpee and Judith Croci and her husband John of East Longmeadow; and he leaves seven cherished grandchildren, Chip, Keri and her husband Matt, Jeffrey, Sara and her husband Ken, Samantha, Eric and James; and he leaves nine adored great-grandchildren, Matthew, Avery, Julia, Emma, Grace, Kai , Koa, Kaleo, and Kaylee. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorial contributions may be made in Fredericks memory to the Baystate VNA and Hospice, 280 Chestnut St., 6th floor, Springfield, MA 01199.
