James Owen Dunn Sr., age 94, of Mount Dora, Fla., formerly of Westwood, Mass., died peacefully Thursday, July 25, 2013, with his wife of 68 years, Millie Rue Romney, by his side. He was born in Quincy, Mass., Dec. 5, 1918, son of Irish immigrants. He graduated from Boston College in 1946, interrupted by his service in World War II during which he achieved the rank of major and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service. Upon his return from China he married Millie Rue and earned the degrees of B.S. from Boston College and a MBA from the Harvard Business School. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and became an instructor at the air command and staff school. His professional careers were professor in the Boston College Graduate School of Business, principal of James O. Dunn CPA firm; and financial advisor to the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston under Cardinals Cushing and Medeiros. He served on numerous boards of trustees and received many honors for his outstanding service including Papal honors as a Knight of St. Gregory and a papal gentleman - in waiting to Pope John Paul VI, Doctor of Commercial Science (honorary), Merrimack College and Doctor of Laws (honorary) St. Anselm's College. He and Millie Rue retired to Florida in 1976. He is proudly survived by his wife Millie Rue Romney of Mount Dora, Fla.; and his children, Christopher of Scituate, Mass., Michelle Morgan of Amherst, Mass., Philip of Beverly, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Martin of Milton, Mass., Paul of Abington, Mass., George of Ruskin, Fla.; and sister, Rosemary Byrne of Braintree, Mass. He was predeceased by his son, James Owen Dunn Jr., sisters, Mary Killory and Sr. Rose Francis, and brothers, William, Francis, and Vincent Dunn.
