Lt. John F. Mulligan, QPD Retired, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at age 87. A lifelong Quincy resident, he was a Veteran of WWII USMC. After working for several years as a pipe fitter for Local 537, John joined the Quincy Police Department where he served for 35 years and received numerous citations. He was a member of the Furnace Brook Golf Course and a life member of the YMCA. The beloved husband of Frances D. (Stefanik) Mulligan, John was the loving father of the late Janet Ramirez; step father Gerard D. Britt, MSP. Ret., of Quincy, Thomas E. Britt of Marshfield and Richard D. Britt of Naples, FL; brother of the late Paul Mulligan; and is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center. Family and friends are invited. On Wednesday there will be a gathering at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church 550 Washington St. Quincy. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, W. Quincy. Donations in John's memory may be made to the St. Joseph's Building Fund, 550 Washington St., Quincy, MA 02169.
