Thomas C. Smith of Marshfield, passed away Feb. 28, 2014, at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Barbara (Starnes) Smith, he was the loving father of Greg Smith and his wife Mary Ann of Halifax, Leslie Smith and her husband Lawrence Grimes of Marshfield and Christopher Smith and his wife Heather of Newtown, Conn.; loving grandfather of Nevin, Daniel, Bryan, Melinda, Rachel, Matthew, Riley and Taegan; dear brother of Laurence Smith, Barbara Walls, William Smith, Robert Smith and the late Clara Brown and Alma Partain; son of the late Laurence Star and Thelma Smith. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Thomas was born and raised in Oneida, Tenn., and moved to Marshfield in 1972. He graduated from Oneida High School. Thomas attended Tennessee Technological University and graduated from Georgia State University. He served in the U.S. Army for two years as a military police officer. Thomas worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He was a former member of the Lions Club and a University of Tennessee sports fan. Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139, in Marshfield, Saturday, March 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a service at 3 p.m. Contributions in Thomas memory may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O.
