Upon retiring as a director at Nynex, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from the House of Representatives for his service to the Communications System of America. He was a member of the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association, Old Colony Club and an avid historian. Dickie was also a counselor at Camp Bournedale, a ranger at Myles Standish and a volunteer for TIC Network. He was honored to have been a match for a bone marrow recipient.
