Ruth Rollins Obituary

Ruth E. (Swanson) Rollins, 93, of Plymouth, formerly of Carver and Brockton, passed away on September 29, peacefully while surrounded by family. She was born in Brockton on May 13, 1922, the daughter of the late Aldis (Britt) Swanson and Frank J. C. Swanson. She was the loving wife of the late Herbert S. Rollins, and is survived by her two children, Herbert S. Rollins Jr. and wife Jeanne of East Bridgewater, and Nancy J. Gardner and husband Sam of Richmond, RI and the late James E. Gardner. She was the loving grandmother of Jason E. Gardner, Megan L. Cole and husband Larry, Samantha J. Rollins, and Stephanie M. Dennehy and husband John. She is the great-grandmother to Zachary H. Rollins. Ruth was a 1939 graduate of Brockton High School and attended Bates College in Lewiston, ME where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1943. She worked for a number of insurance companies in Boston after graduation, eventually becoming an Executive Secretary for a transportation company in Brockton for several years. Ruth was a member of many community organizations, taking pride in her activities and busy social life. In 2009, she was honored by the General Federation of Womens Clubs of Massachusetts for over 25 years of volunteer service and membership. She also served as President of the PM Club of Brockton. Ruth was a former member of Central United Methodist Church in Brockton and then United Parish of Carver, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Ruth loved spending her summers on her boat, the Nance II, on Cape Cod and later at her cottage in Maine. She was also an avid New England Patriots fan. Her family and friends will remember Ruth for her outgoing nature, lively sense of humor and love of her grandchildren and great-grandchild who brought joy to her life. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Carver (Rt. 58), Friday, October 2, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 3, at the United Parish in Carver at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Pine Hill's Cemetery in West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruths name may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Humane Society or United Parish of Carver. I'll miss the chats, laughs & stories whenever stopping by to say Hi or bring in groceries for you. Still chuckle about getting the newspapers off the porch roof and how they ended up "delivered" there!
Missed seeing you here at SMV after your move but you said it was the right time & to still come visit...which I did a few times...without having to retrieve The Enterprise from that roof!
It was my pleasure to have known you. Mom & Dad also felt the same, esp. for the many years thru our dear friends (and yours) Dot & Vin Holland.
Thank You Ruth & God Bless You.
