It saddens me to learn that this world will be without a wonderful Christ centered man such as Herman. In my 15 year ministry at the Bible League I was privileged to know Herman in a way many people did not. He was an encourager and I saw him as a most dedicated man for the cause of Christ. We spent many hours together in the late 90s gathering different language Bibles that Herman would give to the Seaman's mission. When Mrs Chapman (Herman's Mother) was ill, Herman would regularly gather torn and tattered Bibles that people would send to the BL and take them to her for repair knowing that this was her mission to repair and get these Bibles into the hands of People who needed the Word of God.
When I was working in BL Asia, Herman would frequently stop at my desk and ask how the ministry in India was progressing. India held a special place in his and my heart. I will never forget Herman and will look forward to talking with him again someday. He was a friend and a loyal loving servant of God.

In loving memory of the best boss I ever had. I worked for the Chapmans at Chapman Real Estate. He was always a kind and generous person. We spent time at their home & had lunch out on occasion. Loved his sense of humor & stories. Celebrate a life well lived and may your memories be your comfort. A great man & christian has went home.

Knowing Herm and Lillian made a profound impact on our lives. We learned so much from them about loving others unconditionally, acceptance, forgiveness, hard work, patience and perserverance. OH ~ LETS NOT FORGET HEALTH!

Herm frequently visited my office the past few years. I was always honored to have him pop in. There was always a hug, and catching up on news, and loads of laughter. I always enjoyed Herm's anticdotes.

I rejoice and have great peace in knowing exactly where Herm is at this moment. At the same time, I will miss my friend.

Our sincere condolences to the entire Chapman family from the Fanning family. You are in our hearts.

I always felt it an honor and a privilege to know and work with Herm. We traveled to Roseland together to find all the old homes and buildings of Bible League. What a blessing to have him travel to each of our five retreats this fall and allow me to interview him. He amazed me with his stories and always had a new one to tell. As Director of Volunteer Development, I am thrilled to have known the first Volunteer of Bible League so well. He has left quite a legacy for us to fill and follow. I pray that the family will be comforted as Herm celebrates his birthday in heaven!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Herm's passing. I always felt blessed to share a brief moment with him while I was working at Bible League. He was a connection to the heritage that I cherished so much. The passion for the Word of God that his parents had was certainly carried on in Herm. I pray that his family will feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit and that his memory will live on in them. I feel blessed that my life intersected with his and I am grateful.

Hi Dan and Val,
I am sorry to hear about your dads passing. I know you will miss him, but the good news is that you will see him again.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord,
Wow what a great promise.
I know what you are going through, whereas, I lost my dad and my hero several years ago.
I know he is with Jesus, and heard those words, "Well done good and faithful servant".

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

As a member of staff at Bible League International, it has been my privilege to work with Herman for many years. Not only did he teach me a lot about what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus but his sense of humor and care and concern for others was special. Herman was my friend and I will miss my friend.

To the Chapman family. I am so reminded of the Parable of the Talents. This would be your dad: "The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, saying, ‘Sir, you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.' 21 His master answered, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'

It was a privilege to know Herm. He was a prayerful, passionate man of God. Among the things that he enjoyed talking about was the importance for people to have a relationship with the Lord, a Bible to know how to have a relationship with the Lord and healthy living. He will be greatly missed. May the Lord continue to surround the Chapman family with His peace and presence during this time.
Sincerely,

As a staff person at Bible League International, I'll miss the friendly greetings, interesting stories, and humorous anecdotes Mr. Chapman shared when he stopped in the office. He came by at least a couple of times a week to pick up mail or documents or just to get updates on what might be new and how things were going. Mr. Chapman's kind, sweet spirit and commitment to sharing God's Word were evident to any of us with whom he had contact. My prayers and condolences to all his family—what joy and comfort to know he is now enjoying the reward of his heavenly home in the very presence of God!

To the Chapman Family--Please know we are praying for your family. Herm's smiling face will be missed. I'll never forget how he used to come to our office each year when it was our BL anniversary and give us a card and thank us for our service. What a wonderful legacy he is leaving! We rejoince in his home-going yet know his passing must leave a huge whole in your hearts. We will remember Herm for a very long time to come. Thank you for sharing him with us. Please accept my sincere sympathy at the loss of your Father and Grandfather. He was a very special man with a never ending smile. I always enjoyed listening to his stories of the early days of Bible League. How the Lord used an ordinary man and his family to expand His Kingdom far beyond what they could have imagined.

I developed a close relationship to Herm during my 3 years here at Bible League. We would go out to lunch teasing each other as to whose turn it is to pay. I had my final lunch with Herm only a few days before he passed. He told me it was his turn and he wanted to start the New Year off right! I will miss him deeply but know we will meet again one day in heaven. Then it will be my turn to pay!

To the Chapman Family -- Please accept our sincere condolences. I will miss seeing and receiving warm greetings from Herm; each time I think of him I smile and am thankful for the privilege of knowing him. Our father recalls playing baseball with Herm as a young boy in Roseland -- the memories are all fond and the smiles will continue. We are most especially blessed by his testimony and witness to Redemption and Salvation in Christ. Countless lives will continue to be affected by that witness! We celebrate his life and his permanent residence in glory. –-Deanna, on behalf of the Van Swol family.

I will never forget when we launched the Easy-to-Read Spanish NT in Mexico City in 2001. In a full stadium, I watch this 'old guy' grab one of the flags and race around the stadium with passion and joy for what God was going to do with this new translation. I asked, "Who is that guy running around like a crazy man?!" "Oh, that's Herm, son of the founder." Yes, he was crazy--for Christ. May we all be as Christ-like.

I will miss seeing Herm here smiling, telling a joke and just spreading joy around this building. Remembering the Chapman family in my prayers that God will provide comfort and peace as you mourn the loss of your Dad and Grandfather.
