Samuel L. Martin
LYMAN, SC-- Samuel Leon Martin, 72, of 121 Shadow Lane, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Charles George VA Center, Asheville, NC.
Mr. Martin was the son of the late Frank Martin, Sr., and Emily Stalcup Martin. Mr. Martin served in the Vietnam War as an E4 and was honorably discharged. He was the recipient of many medals including the Purple Heart. Mr. Martin was a member of Tucapau #253 Masonic Lodge of Startex, S.C. and a member of Mid City Shrine Club and Hillbilly Clan #2 of Lyman, SC. Sam enjoyed having friends over for jam sessions where he loved singing and playing the guitar.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Barbara Jean Davis Martin of the home; one daughter, Rita K. Jewell of Lyman; grandson, Brandon "Jabou" Hendrix; one God-son Ricky Ray Todd of Lyman; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Annie Martin of Blairsville, GA; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dot and Gene McKee of Atlanta, GA, Dee Upchurch and Mary and Jack Grover.
Mr. Martin was predeceased by a daughter, Sherrie Lane Eubanks; a brother, Frank Martin, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Butch Upchurch.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19th at Hillcrest Memory Gardens with Military and Masonic rites.
Pallbearers will be Ray Todd, Stephen Terry, Toby Davis, Rita Jewell, Harley Griffey and Leroy Griffey.
Honorary escort will be the members of the Hillbilly Clan #2 motorcade.
Visitation will be held 11:00-1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mid-City Shrine Club.
The family is at the home.
