Hilda Putnam Stapleton SPARTANBURG, SC-- Hilda P. Stapleton, 92, of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born on January 4, 1922, in Laurens, SC to the late Eugene Harrison and Amy Jamison Putnam. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Jackson Stapleton, three brothers and one sister. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. As a graduate of Columbia College, she retired from teaching after 30 years with Spartanburg School District 5. She was an avid reader and loved being close to her family. Hilda is survived by her sons, Carl Eugene Stapleton, of Portsmouth, VA and James Kenneth (Cathy) Stapleton, of Roebuck, SC; daughters, Linda C. Stapleton of Orange Park, FL and Rebecca S. Prince of Spartanburg, SC. She was the very proud grandmother to four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:30 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 215, Buffalo, SC 29321, conducted by the Rev. Chris Barrett. Arledge, Thomas N. "Tom"  
Thomas N. Arledge SPARTANBURG, SC-- Thomas 'Tom' N. Arledge, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 17, 1933, in Tryon, NC, he was the son of the late Edward Birch Arledge and Janie Louise Hudson Arledge. A U.S. Army veteran and graduate of Wofford College, Mr. Arledge was retired from Hoechst Celanese and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the New Boys Sunday School Class. Tom was an all-around athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball at Tryon High, football at Wofford; an avid golfer and member of Three Pines Country Club. He loved being outdoors where he fished and hunted. Tom loved the Lord and wanted to share the grace of God with others. This is evident from his over 40 mission trips to Brazil and Moldova with his best friend, Jess Brown. The mission teams they lead built numerous churches in Brazil and provided financial support for house churches in Moldova. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Josephine 'Jo' Elder Arledge; daughters, Laura Balascio (Carey) of Newark, DE, and Paula FitzGerald (Stan) of Brandywine, MD; granddaughters, Phoebe Balascio and Kimberley FitzGerald; sisters and brothers, Marie Barton, Robert Arledge, James Arledge, Karen Carruth, and Nancy Lewellyn; numerous nieces and nephews; and also his caregiver and 'adopted son' Steve Henderson (Angie). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Louise Powell. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 PM Monday, November 24, 2014 and 12:00 noon-12:45 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM Tuesday, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Morgan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Eden Terrace Evergreen and also, the wonderful nurses and doctors of the Spartanburg Regional Palliative Care wing, especially Julie, Patti, Tina, Kaitlyn, and Dr. Blankenship. Bagwell, Roger Dale  
Roger Dale Bagwell COWPENS, SC-- Roger Dale Bagwell, age 51, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, at his residence. He was the husband of Wanda King Bagwell. Roger was born in Spartanburg, SC, on April 30, 1963, a son of Jewell Griffin Bagwell and Vessie Monroe Bagwell. He was of the Baptist faith. Roger was employed by AFL for 19 years. He loved his family and will be missed by all of them, especially his grandson Parker, who was his Papa's pride and joy. In addition to his wife, Wanda, of 31 years, Roger is survived by two sons, Bradley Bruce Bagwell and Matthew Monroe Bagwell; grandson, Cayden Parker Bagwell; mother, Jewell Bagwell; brother, Ronnie Bagwell and his wife, Peggy; sister, Lynda Bagwell Loving and her husband, Pat; brother-in-law, James King; sister-in-law, Karen Gosnell, and a number of nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his father, Vessie Bagwell. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:45 PM on Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 2:00 PM in the Chapel conducted by Rev. Shawn Hackett. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Bland, Mary Evangeline McCracken  
Mary Evangeline McCracken Bland Mary Evangeline McCracken Bland, 98, of Petersburg, VA, passed away on November 19, 2014. Born in Spartanburg, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Alden Howell and Frances McCravy McCracken; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Vernon Bland; one sister, Rebecca M. Edward; and a brother, Isaac McCracken. Mrs. Bland was a longtime faithful member of Second Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Leslie Marshall Bland and wife, Denise; three nieces; three nephews; and her devoted neighbors, Alice and Brandon Martin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Second Baptist Church, 3355 Johnson Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805. Cantrell, Tim  
Tim Cantrell SPARTANBURG, SC-- Timothy Lee Cantrell, 54, of Spartanburg, died Friday, November 14, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Born August 1, 1960 in Spartanburg, he was the son of Mary Wolfe Cantrell of Inman and the late Boyce Lee Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was the founder of C.T.M.I. of Spartanburg and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Tim was a kind and generous man who loved his Lord, family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Livia Wilson Cantrell; daughter, Bella Cantrell and son, Solomon Cantrell, both of the home; sister, Sandra Cantrell Gosnell (Joe) of Lexington, SC; niece, Mary Elizabeth Farmer (Brad) of Lexington, SC; mother-in-law, Carolyn Wilson of Boiling Springs, SC; and special friends, Gary Martin, Dutch Browning, and Royce Camp. William Edward 'Ed' Carter, III RUTHERFORDTON, NC-- William Edward 'Ed' Carter, III, age 74, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Friday, November 21, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC. Ed was preceded in death by his parents William Edward Carter Jr. and Vivian Ruth Paxton Carter. He was a Vietnam veteran where he served in the Navy in submarine service and was an avid sailor. Ed was a member of GWRRA. He is survived by his wife; Patricia O'Brien Carter; a Daughter, Beth Bonthron and husband Niles of Waynesville, NC; a Son; Chip Carter and wife Linda of Gaffney SC; a Sister, Sharon Ruth Carter of Crystal River, FL and Seven Grandchildren, Richard Neales, Nicole Neales, Katelyn Giovenco, Jacob Yant, Danny Eaton, Kirsten Bonthron and Zachary Carter. A memorial service will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 5 PM in McMahan's Chapel with Pastor David Williams officiating with military honors provided by Rutherford County honor guard. Cook, Harrold Dean - Spartanburg  
Harrold Dean Cook SPARTANBURG, SC-- Dean Cook, 76, husband of the late Betty Seay Cook (mother of his three sons) and the late Jane Ridgeway Cook, died Friday, November 21, 2014. Dean was born in Pacolet, a son of the late Dewey and Minnie Bryant Cook. He was a member of the Centre Masonic Lodge #37 and Chiquola Baptist Church in Honea Path, SC. Dean was also an avid woodworker and fisherman. Dean is survived by three sons; Russell Cook (Gloria) of Chapin, Dennis Cook of Pauline, Chip Cook (Paige) of Myrtle Beach; four sisters, Margaret Byrd of Spartanburg, Geraldine Ellison of Hartsville, Loree Hodges and Betty Jo Howell both of Pacolet. Dean was blessed with seven grandchildren and a great grandson. In addition to his wives, Dean was predeceased by his brothers, Foy Cook, Huston Cook, and a sister Vera Cook Petty. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014, at 1:00 PM, at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Roebuck, SC, officiated by Minister Chip Cook.
