Arthur M. McLain, Jr.
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Arthur (Jim) Milton McLain, Jr., 80, of Spartanburg, widower of Frances H. McLain, went to his Heavenly Home at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Mr. McLain was born November 9, 1932, to the late Arthur M. McLain, Sr. and Anna Thomas McLain on a farm near Potwin, KS.
He attended Potwin Schools where he was active in sports, drama and music, and graduated from Potwin High School with the Class of 1950. He was active in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War
and became known as "Big Jim McLain" to family and friends. He was also known to all that knew him as a gentle, caring soul that would do anything for anyone. He was a hard worker, who provided well for his family working in the textile industry at Springs Industries in Lyman. He was a God loving man and was active in his church at Canaan Baptist Church until his health started to decline.
Mr. McLain was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Jo Hadden, three sisters, a half brother and a half sister.
He is survived by sons, Arthur M. McLain III (Sandra), James M. McLain, and Joe C. Shultz, Jr. (Judy); daughter, Donna Fortner (Clarence); sisters, Wilma Criger and Miriam McLain; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. McLain will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, his family and his most prized poodles, Buddy and SassyPants. A golden heart has stopped beating and he is walking those streets of gold.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28th at The Wood Mortuary.
Visitation will be held 10:00-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Donna Fortner, 311 Crandall Way, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
