MAYO, SC-- Benjamin Jones Horton, 80, of Mayo passed away February 12, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Louise Williams Horton and the son of the late Z. Vance and Inez P. Horton.
He was employed for 37 years at Draper Corporation, worked for Vickers Wrecker Service for several years, was a Commissioner of the Mayo Fire Department for many years and was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Horton was a member of Mayo First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday School teacher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Steve Horton and wife, Tammy of Mayo; son-in-law, Randy Edwards of Boiling Springs; 2 grandchildren, Brian Edwards of Boiling Springs and Adam Horton of Mayo; 2 brothers, George Horton and wife, Marie of Boiling Springs and Connor Horton and wife, Tina of Cowpens; 1 sister, Cornelia H. King of Forest City, NC; 1 sister-in-law, Ruby Horton of Moore; several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter Debbie Horton Edwards of Boiling Springs; 2 brothers, Everette Horton of Boiling Springs and Richard Horton of Moore, and 1 sister, Mary Miller of Spartanburg.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ben's loving caregiver Norma Johnson who was so dedicated to his care. Also a special thank you to Maurice, Rosa, Melody Randolph and the SRMC Hospice team.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Mayo First Baptist Church officiating by Rev. Daryl Tolleson, and Rev. Larry Fleming. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers are as follows: Jim King, Don King, Marty Horton, Robbie Williams, R. J. Plumley and Ben King.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
The family will be at 689 Cornmill Road, Cowpens.
