GAFFNEY, SC-- William (Bill) Lafayette Baker, Jr., 87, formerly of 120 Chandler Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Brookview Healthcare.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Ruth Reynolds Baker and was the son of the late William Lafayette Baker, Sr. and Ida Sutton Baker. Mr. Baker was the owner and operator of Western Auto in Jonesville, was a U. S. Navy veteran, and was a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church where he formerly served as an elder.
Surviving is a daughter, Patti Campbell and husband, Charles, of Gaffney; a brother, Fred Baker and wife, Gladys, of Columbia; a sister, Thelma Harrill of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Chad Campbell and Clay Campbell and wife, Nadia; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Henderson and husband, Gene, of Pacolet. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Baker, Carl Baker and James Baker and a sister, Wilma Brown.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Herrin officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Limestone Presbyterian Church, "Family Life Center", 101 E. Jefferies Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
The family will be at the residence of Patti and Charles Campbell, 163 Hillcrest Drive, Gaffney.
