GAFFNEY, SC-- Robert (Bob/Butch) Edward Mathis, 72, of 140 Kristin Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Converse, he was the husband of Edith Maxine Simpson Mathis and first married to the late Louise Marie-Claude (Mickey) Mathis and was the son of the late Leonard Edward Mathis and Mammie White Mathis. Mr. Mathis retired from the U. S. Navy, retired from the Anchorage Alaska Police Department, and was a member of Church Builders Tabernacle of Spartanburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his two sons, Robert Mathis Jr. and wife, Heather of Kodiak, AK and Mark Mathis and spouse, Jacob of Anchorage, AK; two brothers, Rev. Wesley Mathis and wife, Carol of Okinawa, Japan and Mike Mathis and wife, Debbie of Sun City, CA.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at Church Builders Tabernacle of Spartanburg. Memorial services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the church with Pastor James Rutledge officiating.

The family will be at their respective homes.
