Carl Shults, Jr.

INMAN, SC-- Carl Shults, Jr., 76, of 9 Rhinehart Street, Inman, died Friday, January 25, 2013. He was son of the late Carl Shults, Sr. and Minnie Eldridge Shults.
He was a member Gramling United Methodist Church. He retired from the US Army after 20 years, where he served primarily within the Army Corps of Engineers. He earned numerous medals while serving, one in particular, the Bronze Star. He served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in the Korean Conflict. After his retirement, he served as the Mayor of Inman from 2002-2006 and as Fire Chief of the Glassy Mountain Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
He is survived by his three children, Vivian Garrett (Bennett) of Charlotte, Ralph Shults of Campobello and Tricia Taber (David) of Landrum; a brother, Charles Shults of Campobello; a sister, Shirley Stacey of Rutherfordton; and two grandsons, Justin Dean Shults and Drake Alexander Taber.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00pm Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, January 28th at Petty Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Ben Herlong. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
