WOODRUFF, SC-- David Alton Simmons, 68, of 9979 Highway 221, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at his home.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Darlene Fowler Simmons of the home and the son of the late James Vernon and Lois Rice Simmons.
He was a self-employed dry-wall contractor, a member of Switzer Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, on the Building & Ground Committee and was a driver for the church bus. He was a member of Bethel Masonic Lodge and an avid Go Cart Racer with Deuce's Cart Shop.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Tina Simmons and Darla Simmons, both of Woodruff, Sandie Simmons Hoopaugh of Fountain Inn and Mary Dobbing and her husband Rich of Bluffton; four brothers, James Vernon Simmons, Jr. of Spartanburg, Eddie Simmons, Danny Simmons and Wayne Simmons, all of Woodruff; and one sister, Pat Snow of Cross Anchor. He was predeceased by a brother, James Arthur Simmons.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Forest Hills Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Switzer First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Michael Owings and Rev. Darryl Bailey.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
