INMAN, SC-- Donald Alfred 'Don' Zimmerman 53 of 184 Riverbluff Drive Inman, passed away Tuesday at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Donald was born in Orange County, CA, and came to Spartanburg, SC, in the winter of 1987.
Don is survived by his wife, Shannon Zimmerman of 22 years and his only son, Taylor Austin Zimmerman, 20. He is the son of David Zimmerman and stepmom Judy of Cathlamet, WA, and Maryjane Sweet Taylor and stepdad Durward "Bud" Taylor of Chesnee, SC. Don is also survived by brothers, David Zimmerman of California, James 'Jimmy' Zimmerman of Inman, SC; sister, Angeljane Marlow and fiancé Chris Lawter of Inman, SC; half-brother, Lee Ryan Zimmerman of Montana; half sister, Dianna Zimmerman of Cathlamet, WA; stepbrother, Durward 'Buddy' Taylor of Delaware; stepsister, Debra Lynn Atkins of Pennsylvania; stepbrother, Rusty K. Taylor of New Jersey and stepbrother Kennard Taylor, also of New Jersey.
Don also served in the army during peacetime and was stationed in Hamburg, Germany. Don was an avid golfer and pool player; he enjoyed his time at Woodfin Ridge Golf Course and Rascals Club House. Don was employed by Fatz Resturant of Boiling Springs, SC, where he was a bartender/server. Don was know for his famous dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffing. Don fought a very hard fight with this rare cancer that took him to quickly from his family and friends, but he will be missed greatly.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at Hospice House on Jeff Davis Road, off of Asheville Highway.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Shannon Zimmerman transplant fund, in care of Eva Gillespie of 168 Moss Lane, Boiling Springs, SC. Unfortunately, Shannon still has to make medical trips to Duke Med in Durham, NC, to take care of her transplanted lungs. The family is most grateful for all of the prayers that have gone out for Don and Shannon during this time of sorrow.
