LANDRUM, SC-- Doris F. Thomson, age 87 passed away on Sept.9, 2013 at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum, SC. She was the daughter of Ann and Charlie Fischgrabe (deceased). Doris was born on May 31, 1926 in Copperas Cove, Texas. Doris was married to her husband, James R. Thomson for 61 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Landrum, SC where she taught Sunday School until her health declined. She graduated from High School in 1944 in Temple, Texas. She attended the Houston Texas Dental Laboratory School, graduating in 1947. After graduation, she supervised the Dental Laboratory at Ft. Hood, Texas from 1947-1953.
She is survived by her husband, James and two children, Ann Bowden of Spartanburg, SC and James R. Thomson, III of Inman, SC. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Christopher Bowden (Lee) of Atlanta, GA and Elisabeth Gabor (Jeff) of Charleston, SC. She lived to be blessed by a great-grandchild, Tyler Gabor of Charleston, SC. Surviving Doris is her sister, Alice Boyd (Al) of Grass Valley, CA. She was predeceased by a brother, Ervin (Rita) of Muskogee, OK. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy Thomson (Helen) of Landrum, SC. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Marylou Thomson, Billy Moore Thomson of Landrum, SC, Bonnie Boyd, Bobby Boyd of Grass Valley, CA and Rebecca Gale of Owasso, OK. Several cousins from various parts of Texas also survive her.
Doris enjoyed helping others. Doris and Rev. Jerry Long were Instrumental in establishing Operation Hope in Landrum, SC. She was chairman of the First Baptist Church Benevolence Committee for over 10 years. Doris loved her family and always wanted the best for them. She will be dearly missed.

Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 in the Petty Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
