WOODRUFF-- Mrs. Elizabeth Godfrey Sloan, age 85, formerly of 244 Sloan Rd. and widow of John Ollie Sloan, went home to be with The Lord February 19, 2014 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home, Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs Sloan was born in Laurens County, June 6, 1928, a daughter of the late Jesse Howard and Pearl Godfrey. She was a licensed cosmetologist, retired from Abbott Laboratories and was a member of Selma Baptist Church where she was a choir member and member of The Barbara Pearson Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda S. Fowler and husband Winfield (Buck) Fowler; three sons, Henry Sloan and his wife Mary of Woodruff, Herman Sloan and his wife Pam of Woodruff, Howard Sloan and his wife Debbie of Simpsonville; six grandchildren, Scot A. Sloan and his wife Stephanie, Patrick H. Sloan, Wendy F. Katrosh and her husband Scott, Tammy S. Simmons, Suzanne S. Lind and her husband Bryant and Joy Elizabeth Sloan. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Seth and Sam Sloan, Noah Simmons, Olivia and Ella Katrosh, Mitch, Connor and Beckett Lind, Alyssa Perkins, one brother Donald Godfrey and his wife Pat of Greer and one sister Carrie Lou Stevens of Duncan, as well as many nieces and nephews and her White Oak Manor Nursing Home Family.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:45 PM in Selma Baptist Church sanctuary, 850 Lawson Road, Woodruff, SC 29388, February 22, 2014 prior to the 3:00 PM Funeral Service at the church officiated by Rev. Fred Quidley and Rev. Dr. James T. Sloan. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to White Oak Manor Activity Fund - 295 East Pearl Street, Spartanburg SC 29303 and Selma Baptist Church Building Fund - 850 Lawson Rd.
