Francis M. Cooper

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Francis M. Cooper, 88, a lifelong resident of Spartanburg County, passed away Thursday, May 8th, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Jennings Cooper; his son, Curtis Cooper, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Jerry Cooper and Terry Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a WWII combat veteran, an accountant and an all-around good provider for his family, but he will be remembered best for his gentle nature and his quiet but quick wit.
In celebration of a life well lived, there will be an official meeting of the Francis "Poppy" Fan Club, to be held on July 6th at the home of Doris Cooper. The menu will include homemade peanut butter ice cream, pimento cheese sandwiches, maple nut goodies and Poppy tea. Watermelon and bottle rockets will follow the meeting. It is expected that all members of the fan club will be in attendance, including his beloved nieces and nephews, daughters-in-law, brothers and sisters in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors and all stray souls Francis treated as his own children.
The family wishes to thank Home Instead Senior Care, especially Miss Eddie Thompson, and the staff of White Oak Manor for their compassionate care for Mr. Cooper during the last weeks of his life.
