Henry I. Vaughan

UNION, SC-- Mr. Henry Irving "Papa Henry" Vaughan, 90, of 114 Spruce St., Union, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his home. Mr. Vaughan was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Grace Elizabeth Sanders Vaughan.
Born in Union, October 13, 1923, he was the only son of the late Irving and Mae Kirby Vaughan. He was a graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the European Theater during WWII. Mr. Vaughan was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a 45 year career.
Mr. Vaughan was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir, a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher and served as treasurer of the Keenagers Club. Active in his community, he was a life-member of the Union Masonic Lodge #75, the V.F.W., the American Legion and Woodman of the World.
Surviving are: a daughter, Shirley V. Lawson of Fletcher, NC; two sons, Terry W. Vaughan, Sr. and wife Jean, and David S. Vaughan, Sr. and wife Ollie, all of Union; a dear cousin who was more like a sister, Helen Grady of Union; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Chapman. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be at Union Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Vaughan's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
