James F. "Jack" Petty

BOILING SPRINGS, SC- James Floyd "Jack" Petty, 94, of Boiling Springs went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at RoseCrest Assisted Living. He was the widower of his beloved Althea Christopher Petty, whom he lovingly cared for during her extended illness.
Mr. Petty was a native of Boiling Springs and a son of the late Darnell and Altie Seay Petty. He was a retired employee of Southern Railroad, a World War II naval veteran, a member of the Boiling Springs Lion's Club and a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church.
For many years the Boiling Springs Lion's Club has held an annual charity golf tournament in his honor. He was Past President of the Lion's Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2006 for exemplary service to his club and the community.
At the time of his death he was the oldest living member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon and was a dedicated member of the choir.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Don and Deb Petty of Lexington, SC; daughters and sons-in-law: Pat and Stanley Robertson of Inman, Jackie and Ken Tindall of Spartanburg; brothers: Buster Petty of Boiling Springs, Troy and wife, Ginny Petty of Virginia; sisters: Ruth Mason of Boiling Springs, Ruby Cox of Duncan, SC; ten grandchildren: Kelley Ezell, Todd Robertson, Christy Farrell, Lindsay Atkins, Matt Tindall, Zach Tindall, Jonathan Tindall, Russ Petty, Ryan Petty, Leigh Petty; ten great grandchildren; and three great, great, grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother: Paul Petty and sisters: Elsie Montieth and Bonnie Smith.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Funeral Chapel officiated by Dr. Hank Williams and Rev. Bobby Lindsey. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Todd Robertson, Russ Petty, Ryan Petty, Matt Tindall, Harold Ezell, and Paul Theus. Honorary escort will be members of the Lion's Club and staff members of RoseCrest.
