GAFFNEY, SC-- Janelle Whelchel Robison, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late Spef Robison and the daughter of the late Homer and Mary Whelchel. She was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was retired from Oxford Industry and enjoyed cooking, gardening and was a friend to all who knew her and also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Robison was an active member of Midway Baptist Church, where she was also a member of The Dorcas Sunday School Class.
Surviving is a son, Rick Robison and wife, Paulette of Blacksburg; two daughters, Carole Taylor of Spartanburg and Susan Chalk and husband, Jim of Virginia; four grandchildren, Jane Payne and husband, John, Joseph Robison and wife, Wylie, Carrie Nenonen and husband, Matt and Mary Nell Chalk; ten great-grandchildren; four brothers, Horace Whelchel, Don Whelchel, H.W. (Bud) Whelchel and George Whelchel; and two sisters, Elizabeth Patterson and Mary Phillips. Mrs. Robison was preceded in death by a sister, Tommie Ann Ruppe; and a grandson, Will Chalk III.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Interment will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.
