SPARTANBURG, SC-- Lorraine Whitmire Norman, 62, passed on Friday, January 25, 2013. Lorraine was the daughter of the late Newton "Newt" Whitmire and the late Viola "Vi" Beasley Whitmire. She was the wife of Luther T. Norman, Sr.
Lorraine was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany; she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, past church treasurer and past clerk of the Mission Committee.
Lorraine was a retired administrator with the former Spartanburg Boys Home (currently the Glenn Springs Academy). She served at the academy for 30 years. Lorraine was a counselor with Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens of Boiling Springs.
Mrs. Norman was a participant in the S.C. Guardian ad Litem Program.
She was a licensee with the S.C. Foster Parent Agency.
Mrs. Norman will be remembered with love by her husband, Luther T. Norman, Sr.; her children, her adopted children, her foster children, and children whose character she nurtured: Stephanie (Otis) Gray, Luther Tyrone "Ty" (Darcie) Norman, Jr., Derrie Walker, Precious Moss, Tony Cleveland, Kevin Cleveland and Wanda Cheeks; her cherished "grandchildren"; other dear family members; her young men of the academy; her colleagues; her treasured Epiphany family; and her friends of the community.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Spartanburg County Foundation for The Spartanburg County Youth Sports Bureau Fund, Contribution Lockbox, P.O. Box 60402, Charlotte, NC 28260-0402. The fund is used to support programs that target disadvantaged youths through year-round community recreation and sports.
Funeral services for Lorraine Whitmire Norman will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC. The Reverend Henry E. Tollison, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, 4164 Highway 9, Boiling Springs, SC.
