WARE SHOALS, SC-- Marion Pinkney Carnell, 84, former member of S.C. House of Representatives, representing District 14 from 1961 to 2002, died November 22, 2012. In addition to his legislative duties, Mr. Carnell also formerly co-owned and operated Piggly Wiggly Stores in Ware Shoals and Ninety Six from 1957 to 2002.
He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School and was a U.S. Navy
Veteran. Mr. Carnell was a member of First Baptist Church, Ware Shoals Lions Club, Ware Shoals Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Forty & Eight. He was also a member of the Burton Center Foundation Board and was the Carolina Health Centers Legislative Liaison.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Moore Carnell of the home, a son, Marion Ray (Jane) Carnell of Ware Shoals and a brother, William (Francis) Carnell of Welford; grandchildren, Chastity (Jason) Vickery, Patrick (Lillian) Nicholson, Erin (Tim) Fleming and Jerred Carnell; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Toni Lynn Carnell, a grandson, Marion Avery Carnell and a sister, Katherine C. Martin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday at First Baptist Church in Ware Shoals with Rev. Leon Jones, the Honorable James. E. Moore, Senator William H. "Billy" O'Dell, Jeff J. May and James L. "Jimmy" Burton officiating.
Burial with honors will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood and will be placed in the church at 1 PM Monday.
The family is at the home 43 S. Greenwood Ave. and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 4 Sunday afternoon.
The family request that flowers be omitted and memorials made to the Marion P. and Sara Moore Carnell Scholarship Fund, Lander University, 320 Stanley Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
