CHESNEE, SC-- Mrs. Mattie Watkins Valentine, 92, of 128 Hilltop Drive, Chesnee, died Thursday morning, June 20, 2013, in her home.
Widow of Jessie Ray Valentine, Sr., she was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late Arthur Watkins and Floyd Martin Watkins.
Mrs. Valentine was a member of Greater Buck Shoals Ministries.
Surviving are: five sons, Joe Lewis Valentine (Bertina) of Inkster, MI, Rev. L.J. Valentine (Ruth) of Cowpens, J.B. Valentine (Louise) of Chesnee, Jessie Ray Valentine, Jr. of the home, and Charles E. Valentine of Gaffney; three daughters, Mae Surratt (Dayton) of Chesnee, Kathleen Hughes (William) of Inkster, MI, and Mittie Harris of Lavonia, MI; four sisters, Ezee Watkins of Jamaica, NY, Ozee Wood and Luella Quincy of Everett, WA, and Nora Fernanders (James) of Chesnee; 49 grandchildren, including Louise Johnson, Linda Valentine, Patrick, Timothy, and Justin McKinney, Jessica Brannon, Mattiray, Charles, Cheleka, and Elijah Valentine, raised in the home; 106 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 25th at 3:00 p.m., in Greater Buck Shoals Ministries with Rev. T.E. McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, June 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in The Gilmore Mortuary. She will lie in state in the church Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
