SPARTANBURG, SC-- Chauncie O'Neil Poteat, 83, of Spartanburg went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Regional Hospice Home. He was the widower of Ellen Kirby Poteat.
Mr. Poteat was a native of Spartanburg County and a son of the late Chauncie C. and Margaret Waters Poteat. He was a retired brick mason with Fiske-Carter Construction Company and a member of Cross Hill Community Church. He was a Mason, Shriner, a member of the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, he operated the chains for the Wofford and Spartan High football programs for 49 years, a member of the SC Fast Pitch softball Hall of Fame, the Old-Timers softball league, a slow pitch umpire, an avid golfer and fisherman.
He is survived by a son and his fiancée, Doug Poteat and Denise of Lake Norman, NC; daughters and sons in law: Libby and Bo Dunford Chesnee, SC and Jodie and Wayne Lundeen of Spartanburg; brother: Bobby Poteat of Knoxville, TN; sister: Elaine Gaines of Spartanburg; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son: Dennis Poteat and a daughter in law: Shirley Page Poteat.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Chapel of Boiling Springs officiated by Rev. Bo Dunford and Rev. Steve Berry. Interment will be in Ft. Prince Memorial Gardens.
