GAFFNEY, SC-- Peggy Jean Simmons Davis Blackwood, 80, formerly of 110 Crestview Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Spartanburg, she was the wife of A. Lawrence Blackwood, was first married to the late Luther Davis, Jr., and was the daughter of the late Marvin Dean and Ona Blackwood Simmons. Mrs. Blackwood was a homemaker, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, was an avid reader and gardener, and was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Nancy Davis Vest of Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren, Kristen Davis McClain and husband, Tony, Renee Vest Moffa and husband, Bob, and Andrew Nicholas Vest and wife, Marcella; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Luther Dean Davis and a son-in-law, Ralph Nicholas Vest.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clyde Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
