Raymond E. Crocker, Sr.
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Raymond Eston Crocker, Sr., 78, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Regional Hospice Home. Born July 23, 1935, he was a son of the late Louie Eston Crocker and Ruth Willis Crocker and his late step-mother, Virginia Hardin Crocker, who helped rear him from a young age. He was married to the late, Marguerite Ervin Briggs Crocker.
Mr. Crocker attended Spartanburg Methodist College and Clemson University and retired as a supervisor from Hoechst Fibers. He was a Petty Officer 1st Class veteran in the U.S. Navy and a charter member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. He was an avid gardener and he was a beekeeper for 61 years earning the Spartanburg Beekeeping Association recognition as Bee Whisperer of the Year, 2012.
Survivors include four sons, Raymond Crocker, Jr. and Billie Lynn of Inman, Bruce Crocker and Beth of Spartanburg, Louie Crocker of Chesnee, Peter Crocker and Tona of Boiling Springs, SC; brothers, Wendell Crocker and Linda of Boiling Springs, SC, Larry Crocker and Susan of Spartanburg; sisters, Evelyn C. Boykin of St. Augustine, FL, Mildred C. Horton of Chesnee, Diane C. McDowell and Donald of Cowpens, Marcelle C. Elm and J.P. of Gaffney; 16 grandchildren, four of which were reared in the home after their parents died: Andrew Anderson, Ellen Marini, Mary Anderson, Jacob Anderson; 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, David Lee Crocker; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Crocker and Virginia C. Anderson, and a brother, George Crocker.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joseph K. Smith, Vicar, officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
