Shirley 'Jean' Rush Bryant
MOORE, SC-- Jean Bryant, 83, of 227 Weston Valley Drive, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Thursday, February 21, 2013. She was born on July 2, 1929, in Whitesville, WV.
Jean attended Morris Harvey College, where she met her husband, John D. Bryant. She taught grade school prior to becoming the mother of five. Once her children were grown, Jean spent time living with her husband John in Mexico and also became an avid reader. After moving to Moore, SC, she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg.
Jean was always eager to bring a meal or baked goods to comfort one who wasn't feeling well. She was a loving wife and homemaker for 63 years. Her children, with gratitude, will always remember her kind heart and love of laughter.
Her parents, Velma Pauline Humphrey and George Porter Rush, as well as her sisters, Reba and Nancy predeceased Jean.
Surviving are her husband John D. Bryant; daughters, Kathryn J. Bryant and husband Rick Johnson, Cynthia B. Perkins and husband Nick, and Elizabeth Monty; and sons, Tim Bryant and wife Crystal, and Joseph Bryant and wife Margaret; and five grandchildren: Matthew, Elizabeth, Elicia, Olivia, and Gillian.
A memorial service was held at noon at the Tyger River Presbyterian Church on February 22, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of the deceased may be made to The Carpenter's Table Community Outreach Center, 5957 Reidville Road, Moore, SC 29369.
