William Thomas Harris
DUNCAN, SC-- William Thomas Harris, 91, of Duncan, died February 21, 2014 at Village Hospital. Mr. Harris was the loving husband of Sophie Boozer Harris, and was the son of the late Ruby and General Young Harris. William and Sophie recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Harris is a Major (Retired) USAF. He served as Paymaster, Pacific Mills and retired as a Project Manager from Lockwood-Greene Engineers. Mr. Harris was a member of Lyman First Baptist Church and was a Master Mason with a lifetime membership at Irving Southworth Lodge, No. 350 in Lyman, SC. He was Boy Scout troop leader for Troop 24 in Lyman and also a member of Lyman City Council.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Carol H. Ford and her husband Terrance of Burke, VA; two sons, Sidney T. Harris of Duncan, SC and Robert W. Harris and his partner Liz Petersen of Durham, NC; two grandsons, Major Christopher M. Ford and his wife Lindsay of Fort Leavenworth, KS and Captain Matthew T. Ford and his wife Megan of Fort Sam Houston, TX; one granddaughter, Maggie E Ford of Arlington, VA; two great-grandsons, Miles and Cooper Ford.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul A. and Bessie Harris of Smithville, NC.
Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 PM Monday, February 24, 2014 at Lyman First Baptist Church with the Service immediately following at 3:00 PM. Pastor Scott Stancil will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Garden in Greer.
