GAFFNEY, SC-- Betty Jean Scoggins Powell, 77, formerly of 119 Pleasant Meadows Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Peachtree Centre.
Born in Spartanburg, she was the wife of Samuel Coy Powell, Sr. and daughter of the late Leroy and Eula Walker Scoggins. Mrs. Powell was formerly employed by Timken, was a loving homemaker, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband, is a son, Samuel Coy Powell, Jr. and wife, Cynthia, of Gaffney; a daughter, Bettina Powell Waters and husband, Perry, of Gaffney; a brother, Leonard Ray Scoggins and wife, Charlotte, of Greer; three grandchildren, Samuel Coy (Trey) Powell, III, Kesha Humphries Jones and husband, Jason, and Renae McBee and husband, Steven; three great-grandchildren, Georgia Kathleen Jones, Emily Jones and Griffin Jones. She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Lee Powell; two brothers, Ben Millwood and Carl Scoggins and three sisters, Doris Thomas, Mary Black and Lillie Mae Silver.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Dr. Terry Duvall officiating. The family will receive friends any time at the residence, 119 Pleasant Meadows Drive, Gaffney. Interment will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
