SPARTANBURG, SC-- Clegg Lamar Greene, 72, of Gaffney and Clemson SC, died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, Spartanburg, SC following a long and valiant fight due to complications following open heart surgery.
Born in Thomson, GA, to Joshua Marion and Ola Samuels Greene, Mr. Greene was a graduate of Thomson High School, Thomson, and Clemson University. He spent his career in textiles and real estate development. Owner and President of JP Enterprises, Gastonia, NC, he began his textile career at the Deering Milliken in Greenville, SC. He spent the next 20 years specializing in Plant Management at Burlington Industries in Franklinton, NC, and Rockingham, NC, Dan River Mills in Danville, VA, and M. Lowenstein in Gaffney, before starting his own company in 1981. His real estate development began in the early 1970s, developing lake properties in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina and later developing properties near large NCAA schools for luxury condominium living.
He was pre-deceased by his parents. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Juleene Graham Greene; son Jeff Greene (wife Sally Greene) of Rock Hill, SC; daughter Paula Greene Painter (husband John Painter) of Marietta, GA; and six grandchildren, Harrison, Samuel and Simeon Greene of Rock Hill, and Morgan, Ginny Anne and Pressley Painter of Marietta. Also surviving is stepdaughter Michelle Fowler of Myrtle Beach, SC; and step-grandchild Ashley Fowler of Mullins, SC.
A proud and giving father and grandfather, he was a tireless Clemson Football supporter and loved being around young people. In his professional and personal life, he had a special passion for mentoring aspiring young men to become professionals in their field.
Funeral services for Mr. Greene will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, Thomson, with graveside services immediately following at Marshall Baptist Church Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation is 1:00 PM at the Curtis Funeral Home prior to services.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Steven Leyland, Dr. James Story, Dr. Wilson Smith, Dr. Rico Mendoza, Dr. David Mullins, Dr. Charles Bowers, Dr. John Gallagher, Dr. Debra Miller-Cox, the CVRU staff at Spartanburg Regional Hospital and the staff at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care for their kind, compassionate and tireless care during this prolonged battle.
