MONROE, NC-- C. G. (Graham) Hopper died Friday, July 5, 2013, in Charlotte, NC at the age of 88.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Monroe, NC Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Dawson officiating. Burial service will be held in Gaffney, SC at Oakland Cemetery at 5:00 pm on the same day. Family will be accepting visitors at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, NC from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
Dr. Hopper was born in Gaffney, SC January 25, 1925, son of Clyde Graham Hopper, Sr. and Ruth Wilson Hopper. He graduated from Gaffney High School in Gaffney. He graduated from University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy and Pre-Medicine. He received his M.D. degree from Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston, SC. He practiced general medicine in Gaffney for two years before taking a residency in Radiology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Graham worked as Chief Radiologist at Union Memorial Hospital of Monroe, NC from 1961 to 1993. He served 3 years in the U.S. Air Force as Flight Surgeon and was honorably discharged with rank of Captain. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church, Monroe, NC.
Graham is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Davis Hopper and four children, Clyde Gibson Hopper with wife Debbie Powell Hopper of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Nathan Graham Hopper with wife Denise Johnson Hopper of Monroe, NC, Melanie Hopper of Matthews, NC, and Clark Evan Hopper of Winston-Salem, NC. There are five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Anthony C. Hopper of Gaffney, SC and Lansford A. Hopper of Gaffney, SC.
The family has asked that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, 109 Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112, or Limestone College, 1115 College Dr., Gaffney, SC 29340.
