Mrs. Dorothy Stroble Bomar
WELLFORD, SC--Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" S. Bomar, 73, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was the beloved wife of 43 years to the late Reverend Odis Bomar, Sr. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Frank Wilson and Mrs. Inez Stroble Wilson. She was the sister of the late Mrs. Nancy Carree.
Mrs. Bomar was employed for 40 years in Spartanburg School District 7, where she taught Biology and Physical Science at Carver Junior High School. She retired in 2003 from the district.
Mrs. Bomar was a 1959 honor graduate of Carver High School, where she was a member of the Girls' Varsity Basketball Team and other organizations. She was the recipient of the American Legion Award of Academic Excellence. Dot was a 1963 honor graduate of Claflin College (University) where she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and she participated extensively in honor and extracurricular activities. She earned a Master's degree in Science from Clark-Atlanta University and a Master's degree in Science, plus 30 from Clemson University.
Mrs. Bomar was the First Lady of Lockhart Chapel Baptist Church., where Rev. Odis Bomar, Sr. served as pastor for 10 years. She served as Deaconess at the New Faith Baptist Church, and a Sunday School Teacher. She served as the secretary of The West Spartanburg Branch of the NAACP, President of Spartanburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and as a Mentoring Teacher at Carver Junior High School.
Mrs. Dorothy S. Bomar is survived by her loving family: children, Mrs. Denia Bomar Brown and Mr. Odis Len Jazar Bomar, Jr. both of Wellford, SC.; her son-in-law Mr. Alfonzo Brown of Wellford, SC.; seven cherished grandchildren, Essence Bomar of Shelby, NC, Ka'Marya Brown, Arianna Wilson-Brown, Elijah Wilson-Brown, Daniella Brown, Alexis Bomar and Olivia Bomar of Wellford, SC; close nieces, Ms. Lisa Carree of Spartanburg, SC, and Mrs. Pamela Carree Moore (Mr. Tony Moore) of Lyman, SC.; sisters-in-law: Ms. Mary Alice Bomar, Ms. Betty Bomar, and Mrs. Doris Peake (Dr. Kenneth Peake) of Lyman, SC, Mrs. Helen Dillard(Mr. Lillywood Dillard) of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Melissa Bomar of Walterboro, SC,; brother-in-law Mr. Curtis Bomar( Mrs. Faye Bomar) of Austin, Texas; a host of other dear family members and a plethora of friends.
The family will receive friends at the family home, 1645 Fort Prince Blvd., Wellford, SC 29385.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 7:00-8:00pm at the John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel. Final Rites for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be held at 6:00pm at the funeral home chapel prior to the visitation.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013, at 1:00pm at the New Faith Baptist Church, in Lyman SC. The J. W. Woodward Funeral Home, Inc. will be in charge of services.
