July 3, 2013
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Edward Dudley Allen, son of Dudley Allen and Edna Mae Moore of Seneca, passed away to his Heavenly Father on July 3, 2013. A Spartanburg native, Dr. Allen graduated from Spartanburg High School, Wofford College, Furman University and Tulane University. Dr. Allen is survived by his loving wife, Jocelle Alverson Allen; daughter, Bonnie Allen Lynch; son-in-law, Jason Cale Lynch; sons, Edward Dudley Allen, Jr. and Michael Andrew Allen; grandchildren, Chelsey Allen Norris and Brittany Allen; and great grandchildren, Liam Norris, Colton Pitts and Kaylee Frazier.
Dr. Allen, a clinical psychologist, was a founding member of the Andrew Tessler School at The Charles Lea Center, The Ellen Hines Smith Girls Home and The Glendale Academy, formerly The Spartanburg Boys' Home.
A Master Gardener, Wofford Football fan and cat lover, Edward was a lover of all of God's creations, including the small but tenacious Boston Terrier who, just as Edward, never gave up and fought for what was good and right in this world.
A man, generous with both his time and talents, helped hundreds of young people through life's hardships. For the past 13 years, he graciously gave of himself to the Spartanburg County Foundation Citizen Scholar Program.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to the Discretionary Fund of the Citizen Scholar Program in Dr. Allen's name at the Spartanburg County Foundation, 424 East Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
Memorial Services will be conducted Sunday, July 7, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Fairfield Mountains Chapel, 1384 Buffalo Creek Road, Lake Lure, NC 28746. Family visitation will be held immediately after the services at the Chapel.

Jocelle,
Ginny and I extend our heart felt sympathies to you and all your family on the passing of Ed.I believe you know that he and I grew up as the closest of friends and while we had not seen each other in years,I had such fond memories of our times together. There is an old Greek Orthodox prayer that I find comforting,"May he rest in green pastures in a place of refreshment and light where there is no pain,no sorrow and no suffering,May his memory be eternal."
