Helen Turner Jones
GREENVILLE, SC-- Helen Turner Jones, 100, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Rolling Green Village. She formerly resided at 113 Penarth Road in Spartanburg until 1999. She was born on August 12, 1912, in Spartanburg to Cora and William Perry Turner. She was the widow of Clarence Roland Jones, whom she was married to for sixty-seven years.
She graduated from Spartanburg High School and Asheville Normal Teachers' College. She taught school in Spartanburg County for a total of twenty-nine years, at John Dodd Elementary, Park Hills Elementary, Houston Elementary, and the Charles Lea Center. She was a charter member of The Church of the Open Door. She was presently a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church, being its oldest living member. She was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class, the Young at Heart senior adult ministry, and sang in Yesterday's Teens choir.
She is survived by a son, Roland Jones (Charlene) of Spartanburg; and two daughters, Peggy Cook (Bobby) of Little River and Annette Boehm (John) of Greer. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dana Gasque of Beaufort, Vince Cook of Rock Hill, Chanda Squires of Myrtle Beach, Rence Jones of Hilton Head, Jennifer Hallenbeck of Spartanburg, Mandy Boehm of Hawaii, and Jason Boehm of Chicago; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Lange and Lottie Owens; and three brothers, Carl Turner, Charlie Lee Turner, and Lloyd Turner; and a great-grandson, Cooper Gasque.
