James Edward Byers, Sr.|
COWPENS, SC-- Mr. James Edward Byers, Sr., 71, of 274 South Linda St., Cowpens, SC gave up this life on Sunday, June 23, 2013. He slept quietly and peacefully away as he bid this world farewell to enter his heavenly home after a long illness.
He was born in Cherokee County, SC to Eddie and Alma Holloway Byers.
He was a member and Deacon of Holy Temple Baptist Church. He retired from Neely's Building Supply. James was a 1962 graduate of Granard High School.
He leaves his lovely and devoted wife, Modestine D. Byers, of the home to cherish his memories. Born to this union are: two daughters, Joyce K. (Dr. Antonio D. Smith) of Spartanburg, SC; Angela R. (Rodney) Wood of Gaffney, SC; one son, James E. Byers, Jr., of Columbia, SC; a special niece, Loretta Byers, of Gaffney, SC; nephew, Taft Jamison, of Gaffney, SC; two grandsons, Justin Wood and Antonio Mark Smith; one great-grand daughter, Justice A. Wood "Princess"; and many other nieces and nephews; two sisters, Ruby Wallace of Charlotte, NC, and Evelyn White of Capital Heights, MD.
James was proceeded in death by: two brothers, Jerome Byers and Eddie Byers, Jr. and two sisters, Lula Mae Sims and Beatrice Ali.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2085 Mayo Rd., Cowpens, SC 29330.
Dr. Antonio D. Smith will officiate. The burial will be at the Lincoln Memorial Gardens. Mr. Byers will lie in state at the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday at 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
The family will receive friends at the home.
