MAYO, SC-- John Douglas Turner, 76, beloved husband of Mazie Lewis Turner, of 1170 Turner Road, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 8, 2012.
Born September 8, 1935, in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Fred Wallace Turner and Fannie Champion Turner. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served during the Korean Conflict in Japan. He retired from Hoechst Fiber and was a member of Mayo First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sherry T. Kellahan; sons, Marty Turner (Linda) and Jeff Turner (Detra); grandchildren, Cas Kellahan, Ashley, Angela, Mark and Samantha Turner, Josh (Jenna), Laura Turner-Rollins (Justin), Caleb Turner, Duran (Karla) Wolff, Kayla (J.W.) Owensby, Holly Wolff; great-grandchild, Kallie Owensby; sisters, Sylvia Splawn (Hoyt), and Peggy Jolley (Paul W.).
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Tom Kellahan and siblings, Catherine Mitchell, Betty Gurley, Colleen Allison, Albert, Roy and James Turner.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Mayo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Daryl Tolleson, Rev. Larry Fleming and Chaplain Dean Cortese officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church.
