CHESNEE, SC-- Julia Scruggs Godfrey, of Chesnee, SC, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Dillon Pointe Assisted Living.
Mrs. Godfrey was born in Cherokee County on November 3, 1915. She was married to the late J. Ralph Godfrey and was the daughter of the late Thomas Clayton and Mamie Hammett Scruggs. She was a member of Chesnee First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Burns (Ronald) of Chesnee; and two sons, Jon Godfrey (Cynthia) and Dale Godfrey (Cathy) of Spartanburg; and two brothers, A.D. Scruggs of Gaffney, SC, and Shealy Scruggs of Charlotte, NC. She was predeceased by a sister, Jerene Ruppe Hucks. Mrs. Godfrey also leaves behind six grandchildren, Rodney, Brent and Mike Burns, Christy Godfrey Barry, Stuart Godfrey and Aimee Godfrey and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 501 Buck Shoals Road, Gaffney, SC with Dr. Troy Gregg and Dr. Gary Grogan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chesnee First Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 211 S. Kentucky Ave., Chesnee, SC 29323.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Dillon Pointe for their dedication and compassion and to Hospice Care of South Carolina.
The family will be at the home of Sylvia and Ronald Burns, 1057 Highway 11 East, Chesnee, SC.
