Nancy Morgan Ambler
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Nancy Morgan Ambler passed away peacefully on December 22, 2013 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Charles Ambler and lived much of her life in Philadelphia PA. She moved to Spartanburg last year and lived at the Summit Hills retirement community.
She is survived by her only child, Charles J. Hodge of Spartanburg, daughter-in-law Ellen, and grandchildren Marcus Hodge, his wife Meghan, Colton Hodge, Margaret Hodge Nowell and her husband Mark as well as two brothers, Bruce (Peggi) an Scott (Robin) along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Dr. Joseph Hodge of Spartanburg and Charles McManus Jr. of Philadelphia.
Ms. Ambler was educated at Abington Friends School and the university of Pennsylvania. she made her debut in 1954 in Philadelphia. Most of her career was spent in advertising media. She was involved in several volunteer activities including: teach at the Philadelphia Zoo; member, Opera Theater committee of the Academy of Vocal Arts; Board Member, Council for International Visitors; guide at two Fairmount Park house museums; office support for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Newsletter Editor and contributor, Center City Residents' Association.
Ms. Ambler spent nearly all of her adult life near Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. She loved to read, cook and entertain friends. Her Passions included the arts, especially opera. She was a member of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia; Philadelphia Museum of Art, American-Italy Society, Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie; Center City Residents' Association; and former member of the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia.
She leaves a special friend, Jakie Bost, who along with her son, cared for her as she courageously battled cancer.
A celebration of her life will be held at The Country Club of Spartanburg on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 5:00 PM.
A wake is expected to be held in Philadelphia at the Cosmopolitan Club on a date to be announced later.
