MARIETTA, SC-- Peggy O'Dell Green, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her three daughters on January 6, 2013 at NHC Mauldin.
Born in Laurens, SC, on September 9, 1932 to Charles Theodore O'Dell and Milwee Culbertson O'Dell, she is the oldest of three siblings, Betty O'Dell Shier, Harold Dwight O'Dell and Charles Stanley O'Dell.
Peggy was valedictorian of Hickory Tavern High School, class of 1950. She went on to receive a nursing degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.
In 1961, she and her first husband, Joseph Beasley, moved to Spartanburg. In the early 1970's, Peggy became involved in acting with the Spartanburg Little Theatre. Around 1980, Peggy decided to follow her passion and pursue a degree in theatre. In 1982, she was one of 40 aspiring actors nationwide to have been accepted to a professional training school, The Priscilla Beach Theatre, in Massachusetts, during the summer. While at PBT, she starred in the one woman show, The Belle Of Amhearst. After receiving rave reviews, she was offered the job of performing The Bell Of Amhearst throughout the Massachusetts school system for the school year of 1982-1983. In 1983, Peggy returned to Columbia, SC, where she performed in numerous other plays at USC and two movies, North And South Part II and Chattahoochee. Peggy received a MFA from the University of South Carolina in 1988.
In Columbia, Peggy met her second husband, the late Russell Earl Green. They moved to Marietta, SC, in 1991. Peggy returned to nursing and taught student nurses at The Red Cross of Greenville.
In addition to acting and nursing, Peggy loved all babies, animals, reading, dancing, shopping and, most of all, her family.
Peggy is survived by her three siblings; three daughters, Elizabeth Beasley Richardson of Spartanburg, Bridget Beasley Wolfe of Spartanburg, and Joann Beasley Aucoin of Greenville. Although she didn't like to use the word "step" because she loved them like her own, Peggy leaves nine step-children, Patricia Green Rimmer, Judith Green Howard, Russell Frederick Green of Knoxville, TN, December Aletha Green of Dayton, OH, Forrest Whittier Green of Fort Worth, TX, Blair Dobson Green and Jennifer Green Bazzle of Bluffton, SC, Logan Marshall-Green of New York, NY, and Taylor Marshall-Green of Los Angeles, CA.
