SPARTANBURG, SC-- Mr. Renell Atchison, 95, was a very special person whom God has called home. A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Mr. Renell Atchison went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2012. Mr. Atchison was born in Spartanburg, SC, November 8, 1917. He was the son of the late Willie C. Atchison and the late Bessie Montgomery Atchison. He was the founder and owner of Atchison Inc., and expert in the area of demolition.
Mr. Atchison was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church of Roebuck, SC, where he served on the trustee board faithfully until his health began to fail.
Mr. Atchison is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Mrs. Lula Pearl Atchison; a daughter, Sheryle Atchison Irby of Spartanburg, a grand-daughter, Shawnell (James) McNally Fincher of Spartanburg, SC and two special devoted friends Luther "Butch" Norman and Claude "Big Shot" Johnson. Other survivors include a sister Mrs. Minnie Smith of Brooklyn, NY; a brother Mr. Charles E. Atchison, Sr. of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by a son, Dwight Atchison; two brothers, Mr. Marvin Atchison, Mr. John Wilbert Atchison of Spartanburg, SC. a sister Mrs. Dorothy Barnett of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel. Rev. Patrick Suber, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the home at 406 E. Blackstock Rd. Spartanburg, SC.
